About This Test
A Cervical Swab Culture & Sensitivity (Automated) test detects bacteria, yeast, or certain sexually transmitted pathogens present in the cervix. This test helps diagnose cervicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) caused by cultivable organisms. This test is done when patient has vaginal discharge (foul-smelling / excessive), lower abdominal pain, burning or pain during urination, itching or irritation. A Cervical Swab Culture & Sensitivity test helps in identifying the exact organism causing cervicitis, guiding proper treatment with the correct antibiotic, diagnosing bacterial vaginosis, gonorrhea, candidiasis, and mixed infections.
