Blood Culture & Sensitivity (Fungal) (Automated)
Also Known As:
Blood fungal culture
About This Test
A Fungal Blood Culture & Sensitivity (Automated) test detects fungi (yeasts and molds) circulating in the bloodstream. Automated systems can detect fungal growth early and help identify the organism and its antifungal susceptibility. This test is crucial in diagnosing fungemia, a serious bloodstream fungal infection.Once the fungus is isolated, the laboratory performs antifungal sensitivity testing to determine which medication will work. A fungal blood culture helps diagnose Systemic candidiasis, Fungal septicemia, Central line–associated bloodstream fungal infections.
