About This Test
A Fungal Culture (Automated) test is performed to detect and identify fungal organisms (yeasts or moulds) present in clinical samples. Automated systems such as BACTEC, VITEK 2 help in faster detection and species identification. This test is done on specimens like Blood, Sputum / Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), Urine, CSF, Skin scrapings / Nail clippings, Tissue biopsy, Pus / wound swab. This test helps confirm superficial, subcutaneous, or systemic fungal infections. Different fungi cause different severity of disease and respond to different antifungal drugs.
