About This Test
The Widal test is a serological test used to detect antibodies against Salmonella species, primarily Salmonella Typhi (typhoid fever). The method used is tube agglutination. This test support diagnosis of typhoid and paratyphoid fever. It measure antibody titers against O (somatic) and H (flagellar) antigens of Salmonella. Positive Widal test indicates exposure to Salmonella Typhi or Paratyphi. This test is useful in patients with prolonged fever, abdominal discomfort, or splenomegaly.
