IGF-1 (Insulin like growth factor-1) also called Somatomedin-C is a protein made in the liver under the direction of Growth hormone which is produced by the pituitary gland in your body. IGF-1 stimulates the growth of muscle, bone, cartilage & other organs in the body. Excess of IGF-1 levels cause Gigantism (in children) & Acromegaly (in adults). It also increases the sensitivity to insulin and improves utilization of glucose by the body.
