About This Test
The HSV IgG test is a serological blood test that detects IgG antibodies against Herpes Simplex Virus types 1 and 2 in the blood. It determines past exposure or latent infection with HSV-1 or HSV-2. IgG antibodies develop 2–3 weeks after infection and persist for life. The test does not detect acute infection. It is commonly used for screening, counseling, and epidemiological purposes, especially in pregnancy and sexually active individuals.
