About This Test
Chikungunya virus is transmitted by the bite of Aedes aegypti mosquito leading to Dengue like symptoms. This is only screening test for IgM antibodies to chikungunya virus, IgM antibodies develop after 5-7 days of acute febrile phase and may persist for 3-4 months. Therefore, during first week of symptoms, chikungunyaviral RNA can be detected by RT PCR method.
