Also Known As:
Presence of single germline SNPs like BRCA1 & BRCA2 genes increases relative & absolute risk of developing breast cancer & other cancers. Women with this inherited mutated gene allele have 60-80% chance of developing breast cancer & 33% chance of developing ovarian cancer. Breast cancer developing in BRCA1 mutated patients is usually Triple Negative whereas BRCA2 mutated patients are usually ER positive. This assay detects most of the mutations and insertions/deletions in the BRCA gene which is linked to breast cancer. This assay is useful for screening family members of known Breast cancer patients for predisposition.
