Also Known As:
Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is an immune-mediated pulmonary disorder caused by hypersensitivity to Aspergillus fumigatus (Af) that complicates the course of patients with asthma and cystic fibrosis. In susceptible hosts, an allergic response is evoked by repeated inhalation of Aspergillus spores. Aspergillus fumigatus (Af) antigens elicits a polyclonal antibody response which is largely responsible for elevated levels of total IgE as well as Af-IgE and Af-IgG antibodies.
