Zika virus is a mosquito borne flavivirus first identified in Uganda. Most of the people infected with the virus are asymptomatic while some have mild fever, rash & muscle pain. Rarely the virus can cause complications involving the nervous system. Pregnant women infected with Zika virus have an increased risk of miscarriage and serious birth defects in infants such as microcephaly.
