About This Test
This assay should be used as the initial test for evaluating patients suspected of Congenital Protein C deficiency including those with family history of thrombotic events. It also helps to identify decreased Functional Protein C of acquired origin eg. due to oral anticoagulant effect, Vitamin K deficiency, Liver disease or DIC.

Overnight fasting is preferred. It is recommended that patient discontinues Heparin for 1 day and Oral Anticoagulants for 7 days prior to sampling as these drugs may affect test results. Discontinuation should be with prior consent from the treating Physician.
Protein C Functional (Activity) test is important because it checks how well Protein C works to prevent abnormal blood clotting, helping detect Protein C deficiency, a key cause of inherited or acquired thrombophilia.
