Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 is responsible for most infections in humans leading to nearly 10% cases of Atypical pneumonia. Mycoplasma pneumoniae produces pneumonia most frequently in children and adolescence. Coxiella burnetti causes Q fever leading to Atypical pneumonia, Hepatitis or Endocarditis. Chlamydophila pneumoniae causes respiratory infections particularly Bronchitis and Pneumonia specially in elderly people & is responsible for nearly 10% of all cases of pneumonia. Adenovirus causes upper respiratory tract & pharyngoconjunctival infections. It may also cause low respiratory tract infections. Respiratory Synctial Virus (RSV) is the major causative agent of respiratory infections in children under 2 years of age. Influenza Virus may lead to serious complications in patients with underlying pathology. It is difficult to reach a clinical diagnosis during epidemics as it can be confused with other respiratory diseases. Parainfluenza virus serotypes 1, 2 & 3 cause Croup in children 2-4 years old. Serotypes 1 & 2 usually produce endemic disease whereas serotype 3 leads to epidemics.
