About This Test
Leukodystrophy/Leukoencephalopathy are rare inherited neurological disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord & often the peripheral nerves. There is destruction of the white matter and myelin sheath covering the nerves. Common symptoms include decline in the muscle tone, ataxia, difficulty in breathing / swallowing / speaking, seizures etc. More thah 50 different Leukodystrophy/Leukoencephalopathy have been identified such as Alexander disease, Canavan disease, Krabbe disease etc. A total of 261 genes and the associated variants are analysed which are implicated in the causation / association with Leukodystrophy/Leukoencephalopathy.
