About This Test
Dystonia is a movement disorder in which muscles contract involuntarily causing repetitive twisting movements. It is the third most common movement disorder worldwide. It can be focal, segmental or general and can be accompanied with tremors. Muscle spasms can be mild to severe, may affect performance of daily activities & can be painful. There is a significant genetic contribution to many forms of hereditary dystonia which can be early onset affecting infants & children. Late onset dystonia also has a genetic basis. A total of 497 genes and the associated variants are analysed which are implicated in the causation / association with Dystonia.
