About This Test
This assay is useful as a screening test for the presumptive diagnosis of catecholamine secreting Pheochromocytoma & Paragangliomas. Metanephrine and Normetanephrine are 3-Methoxy metabolites of Epinephrine and Normetanephrine respectively. These are further metabolized to VMA. This assay may be used as a first order screening test.

Patient should strictly avoid Alpha- Methyldopa, Buspirone, Codeine, Isoproterenol metabolite, Mandelamine, L-dopa, Parcetamol, Metoclopramide, pepper, alcoholic beverages, tea/coffee, tobacco and strenuous exercise at least 72 hours before and during specimen collection.
The Metanephrines (Random Urine) test is important because it helps detect pheochromocytoma or paraganglioma, which are rare tumors of the adrenal glands that produce excess catecholamines.

- Type of scan or test
- Scan time or sample collection time
In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
