About This Test
Blood Lead is useful in detecting industrial, dietary and accidental exposure to lead and to monitor detoxification therapy. It is recommended to test children regularly for blood lead levels. A value of 5 mcg/dL is considered unsafe for children and a follow up test is advised. Toxicity is suspected when the value exceeds 45 mcg/dL. Symptoms of toxicity include behaviour changes, irritability, weight loss, abdominal pain, vomiting & seizures.
