Haptoglobin is a binding protein for hemoglobin. Low levels are seen in Chronic intravascular hemolysis, regular strenuous exercise and severe liver disease. Increase occurs as an acute phase reaction. This assay is useful for confirmation of Intravascular hemolysis.
