About This Test
Amplification or overexpression of Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 gene (ERBB2) is seen in 15-20% of patients with breast cancer and is associated with shortened disease free & overall survival. Since targeted therapies are available to effectively treat Her2 positive breast cancer, accurate assessment of Her2 status is critically important in the selection of correct therapy such as Trastuzumab (Herceptin) / Pertuzumab. FISH technique is specially useful in Her2 equivocal tumors. As per ASCO 2018 guidelines, all newly diagnosed patients with breast cancer who develop metastatic disease should undergo Her2 test on tissue from metastatic site.

Preparation / Prerequisite
Submit Formalin fixed paraffin embedded Tissue Block. Ship at room temperature. Tissue block must contain 10% tumor tissue. Duly filled Chromosome & FISH analysis Requisition Form (Form 17) is mandatory.
