About This Test
The PCR for Tuberculosis (TB PCR test) is a molecular diagnostic test that detects the genetic material (DNA) of Mycobacterium tuberculosis — the bacteria that causes tuberculosis. It’s much faster and more specific than traditional methods like sputum smear microscopy or culture.
PCR stands for Polymerase Chain Reaction — a technique that amplifies DNA sequences.
In TB testing, PCR identifies TB bacterial DNA directly from clinical samples such as : Sputum, Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), Pleural fluid, Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), Lymph node aspirate / tissue biopsy, Urine or blood.
This test is used to diagnose active tuberculosis (especially when smear is negative), detect extrapulmonary TB , Differentiate TB from non-tuberculous mycobacteria.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is molecular testing?
Molecular testing is a type of laboratory test that analyzes molecules in the body—usually DNA, RNA, or proteins—to detect diseases, infections, genetic conditions, or other biological changes using advanced technique like PCR.
2. Do I need special preparation?
For Urine, Morning first whole urine sample is required, rest specimen no preparation is required
3. How long does reporting take?
Sample till thurs 4pm, report friday.
4. Why this test is important ?
Mycobacterium tuberculosis PCR (TB PCR) is important because it allows rapid and accurate detection of tuberculosis infection by identifying the genetic material (DNA) of Mycobacterium tuberculosis directly from clinical samples.
TAT Policy
The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:
- Registration date and time
- Type of scan or test
- Scan time or sample collection time
In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
