About This Test
The GeneXpert (CBNAAT – Cartridge-Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test) is a molecular test used to detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis — the bacteria that cause TB — and to identify rifampicin resistance, an important marker of drug-resistant TB.
It works by using real-time PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) technology to detect TB bacterial DNA and mutations linked to drug resistance, all in a single automated cartridge-based system.
Detects TB DNA directly from samples like Sputum, Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), Pleural fluid, Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), Lymph node aspirate / tissue biopsy, Urine but not in blood or a specimen having blood.This test is highly specific and sensitive.
