MOLECULAR BIOLOGY

Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Detection

Also Known As: HPV PCR HPV DNA by PCR

About This Test

The HPV (Human Papillomavirus) test is a molecular PCR test used to detect the presence of HPV DNA in cervical or other body samples. It identifies high-risk HPV types that are associated with cervical cancer and other anogenital cancers. Often used alongside or as a co-test with Pap cytology. The test helps in screening, diagnosis, and follow-up of women with abnormal Pap smears. In men, HPV testing may be used for anal, penile, or oropharyngeal screening in specific cases. Sexually active males can also show HPV infections in oropharyngeal region and urine. Oropharyngeal squamous carcinoma (OSCC) has shown a gradual increase in male predominance due to increasing incidence of HPV infections. Routine screening for HPV DNA in females reduces the incidence of cervical cancer and in males is linked o OSCC. High-risk HPV types (especially HPV 16 and 18) cause most cervical cancers. High risk human papilloma viruses genotypes are 16,18,31,33,35,39,45,51,52,56,58,59,66 & 68 and low risk genotypes are 6 & 11.

No special preparation.

Mon-Sat Sample before 11am, report same day. After 11 am or sunday, report nex day.

HPV PCR test is important because it detects the presence of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) DNA, which is linked to cervical, anal, throat, and other cancers, as well as genital warts.

TAT Policy

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
