About This Test

The Peripheral Smear for Malaria Parasite test is a microscopic examination of a patient’s blood sample to detect malaria parasites. Malaria is a disease caused by a parasite which spreads to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes. People who have malaria usually feel very sick with high fever and shaking chills.
