About This Test
The Mantoux test is a screening test for tuberculosis (TB) infection. It detects delayed-type hypersensitivity (Type IV reaction) to Mycobacterium tuberculosis proteins. In this test, a purified protein of tuberculin is injected into the skin and reaction is observed after 48 to 72 hours. It is also called Tuberculin Skin Test (TST), PPD Test (Purified Protein Derivative Test), Mx Test (medical abbreviation). This test just indicates TB exposure, not active disease.
