About This Test
A Trucut biopsy (also called core needle biopsy) is a procedure in which a spring-loaded cutting needle is used to obtain a core (cylindrical) piece of tissue from a suspected organ or lesion. Trucut biopsies provide larger, intact tissue architecture, which allows better assessment of :
1. Whether the lesion is benign or malignant
2. Tumor type (carcinoma, sarcoma, lymphoma, etc.)
3. Tumor grade
4. Pattern of invasion
It is more accurate than FNAC for many solid tumors.
