About This Test
The Vacuolated Eosinophil Count (VEC) test is a microscopic examination of blood to detect vacuoles (small clear spaces) inside eosinophils, a type of white blood cell. Vacuoles in eosinophils suggest activation or degeneration of the cell, usually seen in certain allergic, parasitic, or toxic conditions. This test is usually performed as part of a peripheral smear or special study when eosinophil abnormalities are suspected. The test is done to evaluate allergic condition, parasitic infections, Toxic reactions / drug-induced effects.
