About This Test
Mean Platelet Volume(MPV) measures the average size of platelets in the blood. It is a component of CBC/Haemogram.
This test helps evaluate platelet production and destruction. High MPV indicates increased platelet production or activation which caused due to Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), Inflammation, Vitamin B12 or folate deficiency while Low MPV indicates reduced platelet production or older, less active platelets caused due to aplastic anemia or bone marrow suppression, Chemotherapy / radiotherapy effect, Hypothyroidism etc.
