About This Test
Immature Platelet Fraction (IPF) measures the percentage of immature platelets in the blood. Platelets are tiny blood cells that help stop bleeding by forming clots. Immature platelets (also called reticulated platelets) are newly produced platelets released from the bone marrow. IPF reflects bone marrow activity in producing platelets. High or low IPF can help differentiate causes of abnormal platelet counts.
