Hemoglobin is a protein in red blood cells (RBCs) that carries oxygen from the lungs to the body and carbon dioxide back to the lungs. Hb is included in CBC. This test is done to check for anemia or polycythemia, monitor chronic diseases, evaluate symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath, pale skin, dizziness. Low Hb indicates anemia while high hb indicated polycythemia.
