About This Test
D-Dimer is a breakdown product of fibrin, which is formed when a blood clot dissolves. It is a very sensitive marker for the activation of coagulation. This test is indicated when there is suspicion of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), Pulmonary embolish (PE) and Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). Also helps monitor severe infections, inflammation, and coagulation disorders.
