About This Test
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is the clear fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. A CSF Examination Report is prepared after analyzing fluid obtained through Lumbar Puncture (LP). The fluid is interpreted by analysing cell count , sugar & protein level, type of cells, presence of coagulum & bacteriological status. Comment is also made on presence of malignant cells, mesothelial cells and macrophages. Protein level helps to divide the fluid into exudates and transudate. If sugar levels are reduced, acute inflammation is suspected.Report is interpreted as malignant/suspicious/inflammatory/ transudate/Negative for malignancy. Advisory services are provided wherever required. This test helps to diagnose Meningitis (bacterial, viral, TB, fungal), Subarachnoid hemorrhage (bleeding), Multiple sclerosis, Malignancy (carcinomatous meningitis).
