This test detects the presence of Entamoeba histolytica—a parasite that causes amoebiasis—in material aspirated from a liver abscess. The purpose is to confirm whether the abscess is amoebic in origin. This test helps differentiate amoebic liver abscess from bacterial liver abscess, which require different treatment.
