CYTOPATHOLOGY
Hydrocoele Fluid For Routine Examination
About This Test
A hydrocoele is an accumulation of serous fluid around the testis, usually within the tunica vaginalis. The Hydrocoele Fluid Routine Examination is done when fluid is aspirated from the scrotum to evaluate its nature and to rule out infection, inflammation, or malignancy. This test helps differentiate a simple hydrocoele from other scrotal conditions. The fluid is interpreted by analysing cell count , sugar & protein level, type of cells, presence of coagulum & bacteriological status. Comment is also made on presence of malignant cells, mesothelial cells and macrophages. Protein level helps to divide the fluid into exudates and transudate. If sugar levels are reduced, acute inflammation is suspected.
