Sella Turcica- Axial / Coronal Each Contrast

Also Known As: ct sella turcica

About This Test

A Sella Turcica scan with contrast provides a detailed evaluation of the bony and soft-tissue structures of the sella region, which houses the pituitary gland. The contrast agent enhances visualization of vascular structures and soft tissues, making it valuable for identifying pituitary tumors, microadenomas, cysts, inflammation, or post-operative changes. Imaging is performed in both axial and coronal planes, giving radiologists a comprehensive view of the pituitary gland, optic chiasm, cavernous sinuses, and surrounding bone architecture. Contrast enhancement plays a critical role in detecting subtle lesions and assessing their size, extent, and impact on adjacent structures. This test is commonly recommended for patients with hormonal imbalance, vision problems, headaches, or suspected pituitary disorders. The high-resolution images assist endocrinologists and neurosurgeons in accurate diagnosis, monitoring treatment progress, and planning surgical or medical interventions. It is a safe, precise, and essential imaging study for pituitary evaluation.

Some scans need contrast dye for clearer images. Your doctor will advise based on your
condition.

Ans- Most scans take 5–10 minutes.

Ans-Yes. CT scan is a safe imaging test. However, it exposes you to a small dose of radiation. For most people, such a small potential risk far outweighs the benefits, in terms of saving your life. The radiation dose is controlled and kept within safe limits.
