Lumbar Spine

Also Known As: ct spine lumbar sacral

About This Test

The Lumbar and Sacral Spine imaging study is a detailed examination of the lower back and pelvic spine region, including the lumbar vertebrae, sacrum, intervertebral discs, spinal canal, and surrounding soft tissues. It is commonly performed to assess back pain, trauma, degenerative changes, disc herniation, spinal stenosis, fractures, infections, tumors, or congenital anomalies. High-resolution imaging allows clinicians to evaluate vertebral alignment, bone density, disc spaces, and the integrity of spinal structures, providing essential information for diagnosis and treatment planning. The sacral spine evaluation focuses on the sacrum, sacroiliac joints, and surrounding ligaments, which are crucial for detecting abnormalities that may affect posture, mobility, or nerve function. This study is particularly valuable for pre-surgical planning, monitoring degenerative or post-surgical changes, and guiding interventional procedures. By providing clear and detailed images of the lower spine, it supports timely and accurate clinical decisions for effective management of spinal disorders.

condition.

Ans- Most scans take 5–10 minutes.

Ans-Yes. CT scan is a safe imaging test. However, it exposes you to a small dose of radiation. For most people, such a small potential risk far outweighs the benefits, in terms of saving your life. The radiation dose is controlled and kept within safe limits.
