The Reducing Substances Test detects reducing sugars (like glucose, galactose, fructose, lactose) or other reducing compounds in urine or stool. It is mainly used to screen for carbohydrate malabsorption disorders, especially in infants. In Urine,this test detect non-glucose reducing sugars, particularly in infants . In Stool, this tests for carbohydrate malabsorption. A positive reducing test with negative urine dipstick glucose strongly suggests galactose or fructose.
