About This Test
Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase (GGT/GGTP) is an enzyme found mainly in the liver, and to some extent in the bile ducts, pancreas, and kidneys.
It plays a role in amino acid transport and glutathione metabolism. Commonly this test is done to detect liver damage, evaluate Bile Duct Disorders, Monitor Alcohol Use, Follow up in case of Hepatitis, Fatty liver disease. GGTP is the most sensitive indicator of liver disease and must be interpreted with ALT, AST, ALP, bilirubin.
