About This Test
The Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) test measures the amount of ALP enzyme present in your blood.
ALP is produced mainly by the liver, bones, intestines, and placenta.
It helps break down phosphate compounds in the body and plays an important role in liver function and bone formation.
The ALP test is commonly included in Liver Function Tests (LFTs) and Bone Disease Panels.
It helps doctors evaluate the health of the liver and bones.
A rise in the alkaline phosphatase occurs with all forms of cholestasis, particularly in obstructive jaundice. It is also elevated in disease of the skeletal system such as Paget’s disease, hyperparathyroidism, rickets and osteomalacia as well as with fractures and malignant tumors. A considerable rise in ALP activity is seen in children and juveniles. It is caused by increased osteoblast acitivity following accelerated bone growth.

Frequently Asked Questions
These tests measure things like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol and
electrolytes.
electrolytes.
Fasting is not required for ALP
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, report same day and sunday reports, next day.
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
ALP (Alkaline Phosphatase) testing helps detect early health problems by assessing liver and bone function. Abnormal ALP levels may indicate liver disease, bile duct obstruction, bone disorders, vitamin D deficiency, or growth-related changes, allowing early diagnosis and treatment.
TAT Policy
The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:
- Registration date and time
- Type of scan or test
- Scan time or sample collection time
In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
