Calcium (Ionic) (Ca2+)

CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY

Calcium (Ionic) (Ca2+)

Also Known As: Ca (I) Ca Ionic Ionized Calcium
Calcium is one of the most important mineral in the body which is essential for proper functioning of muscle, nerves and the heart and is required in blood clotting and bone formation. Roughly half of the calcium is referred to as “Free” which is not attached to albumin and other compounds and is metabolically active. It provides a more accurate reflection of physiologically active calcium than total calcium, especially in patients with abnormal albumin or acid-base balance.

1. What tests are done in Clinical Biochemistry?
These tests measure things like blood sugar, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol and
electrolytes.
2. Do I need to report fasting?before these tests?
Fasting is not required.
3. How soon will I get my reports?
Mon-Sat, sample before 4pm, report same day and sunday reports, next day.
4. Are biochemistry tests reliable?
Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Can these tests detect early health problems?
Yes — ionized calcium (also called calcium ionic) can detect health problems and measures the biologically active form of calcium in the blood.

The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:

  • Registration date and time
  • Type of scan or test
  • Scan time or sample collection time

In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
