About This Test
The Spot Urine Urea Test measures the concentration of urea (a waste product of protein metabolism) in a single (random) urine sample.
It helps assess protein metabolism, renal concentrating ability, and sometimes forms part of renal function or metabolic studies. This test is often performed along with spot urine creatinine to calculate the Urea/Creatinine Ratio, or as part of urea nitrogen studies.
Elevated Urine Urea (↑) indicates increased urea excretion due to: High protein intake, Increased protein catabolism (e.g., fever, infection, burns, trauma, hyperthyroidism), Dehydration (concentrated urine), Post-treatment phase of acute renal failure (diuretic phase)
Decreased Urine Urea (↓) Indicates decreased urea excretion due to: Low protein intake or malnutrition, Liver disease (↓ urea synthesis from ammonia), Renal failure or decreased GFR (impaired filtration), Overhydration / dilute urine, Severe illness reducing metabolism.

Yes. We use fully automated machines that ensure accurate and consistent results.
Yes — a spot (random) urinary urea test can provide early clues to health problems, mainly related to kidney function, protein metabolism, and hydration status.
TAT Policy
The Turnaround Time (TAT) depends on the following factors:
- Registration date and time
- Type of scan or test
- Scan time or sample collection time
In uncommon circumstances, TAT may be delayed due to test complexity or reasons beyond our control. You will be informed of the estimated TAT at the time of registration.
