About This Test
The Spot Urinary Protein test measures the total amount of protein present in a single urine sample.
Normally, the kidneys prevent significant protein from entering urine, so any elevation indicates possible kidney damage or disease. This test helps to screen for kidney disease or nephropathy, monitor diabetic or hypertensive kidney damage, detect early signs of glomerulonephritis, assess risk in pregnancy (for preeclampsia), monitor response to renal therapy or medications.
