Plasma proteins are very important for all body functions.
Hypoproteinemia is caused by disorders such as blood loss , spruce ,nephritic syndrome , severe burns , renal diseases.
Hyperproteinemia can be observed in severe dehydration, illness and in multiple myeloma.
A low A/G ratio may reflect overproduction of globulins, such as seen in multiple myeloma or underproduction of albumin, or loss albumin as in nephritic syndrome.
High A/G ratio suggests underproduction of immunoglobulins as seen in some genetic deficiencies and in some leukemias.
The Total Protein test helps in assessing: Nutritional status, Liver function (since the liver produces most plasma proteins), Kidney function, Chronic infections or inflammatory disorders, Certain cancers (e.g., multiple myeloma).
