Phenytoin Level (Drug Level)

Eptoin

Serum Phenytoin
About This Test
The Phenytoin blood test measures the concentration of phenytoin (an anticonvulsant drug) in the bloodstream.
Phenytoin is primarily used to prevent and control seizures (epilepsy) and sometimes for cardiac arrhythmias.
Because the therapeutic range is narrow, both under-dosing and over-dosing can be dangerous.
Hence, this test ensures the drug is at an effective and safe level in the body. This test is done to ensure phenytoin levels remain within the therapeutic window, to investigate signs of toxicity (e.g., dizziness, double vision, confusion, unsteady gait), recurrent seizures and more.
