About This Test
The Obstetric Glucose Tolerance Test (75 g OGTT) is a diagnostic test used in pregnant women to identify Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM). It involves measuring blood glucose at multiple time points after drinking 75 grams of glucose.
Patient undergoes overnight fasting (8–14 hours) then Fasting blood glucose is collected.
After that patient drinks 75 g oral glucose solution and then 4 blood samples are collected at an interval of 30 minutes.
This test helps diagnose gestational diabetes, which is associated with:
1. Fetal macrosomia
2. Preeclampsia
3. Preterm delivery
4. Birth complications
5. Future maternal diabetes risk
