About This Test
The Insulin PP (Post-Prandial) Test measures the level of insulin in the blood 2 hours after a meal or a glucose load.
It shows how the pancreas responds to an increase in blood sugar after eating.
Insulin is produced by beta cells of the pancreas. It leads to Type 1 (IDDM) diabetes caused by Insulin deficiency & Type 2 (NIDDM) diabetes caused by insulin resistance. This assay is useful in the management of Diabetes. It is also used for diagnosing Insulinoma when used in conjunction with Proinsulin and C-peptide measurement. This test is also important for identifying hidden insulin resistance, even when fasting sugar appears normal.
