Genral instructions For CTscans 1. Bring old records Films / reports / CDs 2. Please rule out pregnency as it is a contraindication. 3. Appointment is desirable. 4. Pl remove jewellery at home for safety purpose. 5. For plain CT No fasting and no cretinine / eGFR blood test required. 6. Thyroid scan ( Of NM deptt) to be done before contrast CT 7. Contrast allergy in the past to be infomed to Techie For Pregnant patient – Risk-benefit assessment. Look for any alternative test with no radiation. Bring Photocopy of doctor precription & photo ID proof (Aadhar card, Voter id & driving licence) for PNDT requirements (In Delhi only) For Sedation – Required for un coopertive patients like children , unconcious patients, voilent or non understanding patients. If patient has severe cough & cold / nasal blockage, fever, kidney or liver disease, low haemoglobin – avoid any kind of sedation. There are 2 kinds of sedation – Oral & IV sedation. (i) Oral sedation – Usually works well for children < 2 yrs. Keep child fastingfor 2 hours, try to sleep deprive the child, bring his favourite food / mother to come if breast fed, remove metal from his body surface & clothes. We give oral sedative followed by light meal if required after consultation with anasthetist, child likely to go to sleep. (ii) For IV sedation - fasting is required for 5-6 hours for IV sedation in consultation with yr doctor & our techie team & anasthetist. For Contrast studies – (i) Kidney function should be normal especially for certain categories of pts - age more than 40 yrs, known case of kidney disease, long standing diabetic or hypertensive, single kidney - we need report of S creatinine / eGFR to know kidney function status before contrast injection . So please bring your record of recent ( no more than 4 week old) Serum creatinine/eGFR report if already done. Else it may be done at Saral . After contrast study increase liquid intake for 24hrs after permission from your treating doctor. For patients on dialysis, Contrast CT may be done on day of dialysis after consultation with your treating doctor. (ii) fasting for 4 to 6 hrs required before scan. For Techie If contrast MRI & CT of abdomen region are adviced , do CT before MRI contrast injection as it may affect CT image quality. 1. If associated thyroid scan also - always get thyroid scan before contrast CT. 2. Patient to wait for some time after scan to rule our delayed allergies. 3. if associated with dexa - always get dexa scan done before contrast CT, else DEXA report likely to be errooneous. 4. if H/O barium/IVP/RGU/MCU done before contrast CT, then ct can not be done till contrast has passed.
